Z and I finished another chapter book last night, called The Matchlock Gun by Walter D. Edmonds (who is also the author of Drums Along the Mohawk). The story is set in New York in the 18th century and is about a young Dutch family attacked by Indians. The 10 year old boy in the family must use the matchlock gun, also called the Spanish gun, to defend his family.
Z says about the book, "I liked the part about the boy and the gun. I liked what they put in the gun and I liked the boy because he looked up at the gun and he liked the gun. They put two bullets, nails, rocks, and two brass buttons in the gun."
